You’re reading this one week before Black Friday, and if you haven’t already launched your email retention strategy, panic is probably starting to set in. Here’s what you need to know: it’s not too late. You still have time to make meaningful changes that will impact your BFCM revenue. But you need to move fast.
The good news? This is actually the perfect time to implement quick wins that will pay dividends over the next 10 days. The better news? The biggest money isn’t made during Black Friday itself. It’s made in the week after, when people are processing what they bought and deciding whether to buy again. So while everyone else is scrambling with their BFCM discount codes, you can be setting yourself up for sustained revenue through Cyber Week and beyond.
Here’s exactly what you need to do this week to maximize your Q4 sales.
Today: Audit Your Email Deliverability (Seriously, Do This Now)
If your emails aren’t landing in inboxes, nothing else matters. This is the week to make sure your sender reputation is squeaky clean before you send massive volumes starting tomorrow or Thursday.
Check your domain reputation. Log into your email service provider and look at your bounce rates and complaint rates. Anything above 0.5% bounce rate is concerning right now. If you’re seeing complaints, pause immediately and figure out why people are marking you as spam. Maybe your messaging is off. Maybe you’re sending too frequently. Whatever it is, fix it before you ramp up volume.
Segment your list by engagement level today. Your most engaged subscribers should be the first people you send to when your campaign launches. These are the people who open your emails consistently, click your links, and actually convert. Start there. Build positive engagement signals before you expand to less engaged segments later in the week.
Check your authentication setup (SPF, DKIM, DMARC). Your email provider should give you a simple report. Make sure everything is configured correctly. Authentication is how email providers know you’re legitimate and not spoofing someone else’s domain.
