With the holidays now behind us, nearly three months of winter lie ahead. Approximately 16 million Americans are affected by the winter blues, and many are searching for something to help lift their spirits during the long stretch of gray skies and chilly temperatures.
What’s better to escape than a mini getaway? A winter vacation can provide relief from a dull January and drab February, whether travelers are seeking sunshine, coastal breezes, or the perfect skiing conditions. That’s why Vacasa travel experts rounded up six idyllic seasonal getaways, all inspired by Pantone’s recently announced color of 2020: classic blue.
Pantone says this year’s hue “brings a sense of peace and tranquility” and provides “refuge.” And, really, aren’t these essential elements to any great vacation? So, this year, we’re recommending a little classic blue to beat those winter blues.
The 2020 Pantone Color of the Year – Classic Blue
1. Modern Blue: Nashville, Tennessee
You’ll find varying shades of blue throughout this five-star charmer, reflecting the relaxing nature of the home and its surroundings. Located in one of Nashville’s most beloved and luxurious neighborhoods, ironically named Green Hills, Modern Blue is close to live music at the 37-year-old Bluebird Cafe and iconic boutiques, including celeb favorites such as H. Audrey. This home is perfect for families and groups of friends, Modern Blue can accommodate up to 10 people. There’s plenty of room to unwind after enjoying the city, either inside on the upscale-yet-cozy couches, or outside huddled around the fire pit.
2. Story Book: Harbor Springs, Michigan
Surrounded by snow-capped maple and oak trees, this four-story home is a blue palace fit for the entire family. Parents can stay warm with hot toddies in hand while watching their kids sled down a small hill in the wooded backyard. As a major plus, Boyne Highlands Resort is only a stone’s throw away, making Story Book a haven for skiers and snowboarders. After hitting the slopes, you can light a fire in the stone hearth and cook a meal with loved ones in the spacious kitchen. What more could you want from a winter getaway?
3. Blue Palm: Anna Maria Island, Florida
Looking to escape the rain and cold? This cottage is on Anna Maria Island, where the temperature usually rests in the mid-70s throughout the winter months. Bold blue doors welcome you into the beautiful two-bedroom home loaded with amenities, such as a screened lanai, private pool, and ping-pong table. Friends and family can stroll to the white sandy beach and hop on the free trolley to serve as their own tour guides, experiencing the tranquility of the island to the fullest. This little island has all you need to escape the winter weather and enjoy some relaxation and Blue Palm is the perfect place to end your days.
4. Mountainview Dream Lodge: Ranger, Georgia
If you’re seeking adventure and fresh mountain air, this rustic log cabin is the place for you. Blue is an integral theme throughout the expansive lodge, with different shades featured in every room—on the living room couch, the kitchen island, accent walls, and more–it’s perfect! Since the home is part of the Talking Rock Creek Resort, guests can access the shared pool, basketball and tennis courts, recreation center, and even hidden hiking trails.
5. Splash of Blue: Waldport, Oregon
If walks on the beach are your thing and you’re not afraid of a little rain, you’ll love Splash of Blue on the Oregon Coast. This modern vacation rental with tasteful blue touches, including HGTV-worthy exotic kitchen tiles, is inspired by the ocean just steps from its back door. After a long day of building sandcastles and flying kites, family members can gather around the fireplace to warm their hands and sip on hot cocoa.
6. Beachy Blue – Family Beach Retreat: Panama City Beach, Florida
This four-bedroom home is on the west end of Panama City Beach, just a short walk from the crystal blue sea and only six miles to Pier Park. Visitors can take a dip in the ocean, eat some amazing seafood, catch an Academy Award–nominated film at the local theater, or dance the night away at one of its many clubs. Beachy Blue serves as an ideal resting place, where you can start and finish each day by gazing at the ocean while wrapped in a blanket on the stunning blue balcony.
