How to Avoid the Cold Going Around Your Office

Workplace Absences

Wondering how to avoid the cold going around your office? It’s almost impressive just how persistent workplace illness can be, isn’t it? It almost seems as though no one is safe and that, eventually, everyone will succumb to its hateful clutches. While it’s true that office colds can be notoriously difficult to avoid, there are certain things you can do to help keep yourself healthy and illness-free! Let’s take a look at some great tips.

How to Avoid the Cold and Getting Sick

1. Clean Everything
One of the biggest mistakes that people make when attempting to avoid workplace illness is neglecting to thoroughly clean their area. This means your phone, your desk, your keyboard, your coffee mug – anything that you are in regular contact with needs to be disinfected often. Doing this can help kill the germs that might otherwise get you sick, and will help keep contaminants from those who are already ill down to a minimum.

2. Wash Your Hands Often
I don’t just mean every time you leave the bathroom. Wash your hands properly often throughout the day, particularly before you eat and after you are in direct contact with someone who is sick, in order to help keep your hands – and, thus, everything you touch – as germ-free as possible.

3. Stay Hydrated
You might think this tip is only useful if you’ve already come down with the latest plague running through your office, but that would be incorrect! When you stay hydrated, you are flushing lots of liquids throughout your body. This helps move along any illness that you do come in contact with and can reduce the odds of it sticking around for the long haul.

4. Sleep Well and Stay Stress-Free
One of the most important things you can do when it comes to avoiding that workplace illness is to become stressed out and lose sleep. Both of these issues on their own could contribute to your body not being able to do its best to fight off illness – but when you add them together, the combo is not good for your health at all. Avoid this issue and try to stay as peaceful and happy as possible while getting plenty of rest every night.

5. Exercise
Moving around can help boost your immune system, which means your body will be better able to fight off illness. Exercise regularly, and get some fresh air while you’re at it!
