The next thing that you need to do is review the candidate’s work history. This can include the cover letter, resume and any other documents that might be present. Sometimes you’ll receive a CV that needs some clarification, such as a gap or even hobbies that may have a bearing on their job performance. If this is the case then make a note, so that you can bring this up during the interview. You need to develop a series of points that will help you to assess the candidate’s background while also giving them the chance to elaborate where required. When asking questions, it helps to maintain eye contact as this will showcase your professionalism while maintaining a good level of communication.

Meet in a Setting that is Comfortable

Before you conduct the interview, you need to make some kind of arrangement as to where you’re going to meet. You need to host the interview in a room that is private, and you also need it to be comfortable too. A conference room is usually a better place for you to conduct an interview when compared to an office, but you might not always have the option for this. If an office is your only option, then you need to make the environment as calm as possible. Clean your desk, close the door and always make sure that your phone is turned off so you don’t end up interrupting the interview. Remember that there’s a high chance your interviewee will be nervous. Something as simple as a phone call or even a text might throw them off and disrupt their thought, and this is the last thing you want.
