Three Useful Tips For Working From Home

Planning on setting up a home business, or just landed yourself a work-from-home position? Here are three ways to ensure it runs smoothly for you.

Get your home office right

First things first, clear the space you’re going to use and decorate it beautifully. Simple light, neutral walls will bounce the light around making it feel airy and spacious. Some decorative items such as inspirational prints on the walls and plants can give it a homely feel without being cluttered. When you’re working from home, chances are you’ll be sat at your desk the majority of the time. So it pays to get this area right, you need to be comfortable and have everything you need at arms reach. Go to a store and physically sit in lots of different chairs, be sure you have adequate lumbar support, neck support and it’s the right height for your desk. Purchase a desk that’s as large as it can be without making the room feel crowded. Your next step would be.  A standard desktop computer can be a safe choice as there’s plenty of memory and it can be upgraded as you go. However, if you’re on the go in your business or just like to work in different locations then a laptop would be a smart choice as you’ll always have your work with you. Don’t forget office stationery, everything from pens and paper to stamps from an official custom stamps provider, folders and other accessories mean you have everything you need at arms reach. This can ensure you keep your workflow smooth and don’t need to keep getting up to find the things that you need.

Minimize distractions

The next thing to focus on when you’re planning on working from home is minimizing distractions. Turn your phone to silent, and remove social media bookmarks from your work’s computer to prevent you from idly clicking on them. If you have animals, make sure they’re fed, walked and tended to in the morning before you start work so you’re not having to get up and run around after them while you’re in work mode.

Set your working hours

Finally, working from home means that the lines between work and home become blurred. It can feel as though you’re constantly working and unable to switch off, so make sure you set your working hours. Be productive during those times, and then get some downtime when you’re finished- taking proper breaks rather than working constantly will mean the work you do will be better and you’ll be less prone to mistakes. Returning to projects with ‘fresh eyes’ can easily allow you to spot errors rather than get tunnel vision towards certain issues.
