The Biggest Distractions Driving Your Team Crazy

Reducing Downtime

The better your team is able to maintain their focus, the easier it is for them to be productive. When they’re having trouble managing their workload or meeting their goals, the fault isn’t always with the individual. Just as often, it’s about the environment they work in and the tools they use for the job. If you have an environment riddled with distractions, it’s only natural their work will suffer. Here, we’re going to look at some of the biggest distractions of all and what you can do about them.

The improper spaces

First of all, look at the physical environment that they’re working in. The cubicle crush has its own faults, but more and more we’re seeing that completely open spaces make it just as difficult to get work done. When you’re surrounded by noises and sights you can’t filter out, it can be hard to maintain your focus.

Trying to get in touch

Your employees are not always solely responsible for meeting their goals. There may be resources they need from others or collaboration that has to come together on certain processes. When it’s tough to get a hold of the people you need, or they’re all bogged down by their own work, already, that can be tough. Improving communication, through project management and team communication apps, can make it a lot easier for your team to schedule meetings with one another and to quickly send messages through channels that aren’t overused (like email so often is.)

Errors, bugs, and BSODs

As much as we rely on tech to get the job done nowadays when it doesn’t work, it can completely paralyze our ability to work. Not every team has the need to incorporate their own IT support.Offering some flexibility by allowing your team to work on different devices through Cloud software can help them work around ineffective tech when it’s proving a roadblock, too.

Bad habits and time wasting

Sometimes, the problem is personal, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not worth helping them solve it. Scolding them alone only does so much good. There are also tools like productivity management apps that can help your employees lay out their daily goals, get a better idea of how much time they spend working, and where their own bad habits (such as spending too much time looking at emails) get in the way. If social media or personal website usage is a problem in the office, it might also be worth considering blocking the biggest offenders.

If your team is having trouble getting their work done, start looking at their surroundings and what’s getting in their way. Eliminate the roadblocks and you should see major improvements.
