How do you achieve this though? The best place for you to start is by looking at your employees. Happy employees mean motivated and highly productive staff so it’s important to make sure you’re doing everything you can to keep your staff feeling, happy, motivated and appreciated.

Have a look below at some of the ways you can focus on this in your small business:

Be Efficient

You should take a close look at how your business is currently operating. Note down any potential problems and look to put a plan of action in place to solve them. This should include looking at the current levels of productivity form your staff and speaking to them about their levels of job satisfaction and motivation. If you don’t ask how are you going to improve the situation and make sure they’re happy in their role?

Some of the things for you to look at should include short term and long term goals and you need to make sure your that you are open to changing the way things are running currently and also the potential of the changes not working either. Just because you make a change doesn’t mean it will be successful or a magic fix. Maybe it’s as simple as restructuring how the staff currently run their day or it could be introducing new machinery the will make their job easier and therefore increase productivity this way.

Have the Right Tools and Equipment

As well as providing an ideal working space, it is also important to provide your employees with the correct tools and equipment for them to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. If they are stuck using all technologies or rusted tools how can you expect them to be working productively? Making sure you keep up to date with new technologies, computer system and providing new tools when they are needed will help to keep productivity levels where you want them.

Cut Down On Distractions

It really is down to you what rules and regulations you have set in place when it comes to your employees using their mobile phones, making personal calls or using the internet in working time however it’s no secret that by allowing them free rein with this it could be having an effect on their productivity levels. The urge to check social media accounts, show their work colleague something funny online or start making more than enough personal calls can sometimes be too much for some staff members. At the same time, it’s not practical to have a ‘no phone’ policy. You could try allowing them to have a little breathing space but at the same time ask for mobiles to be kept away in their drawer or bag until lunch or break time.
